I quite often spend 10 minutes a day having a read of the BBC health website, and as someone who has low blood pressure I was particularly interested to read this article today www.bbc.co.uk/health/physical_health/conditions/lowbloodpressure.shtml.
As a holistic therapist I rarely advocate taking unnecessary medication but there have been times over the years where I have sort a GP's advice about my low blood pressure and often be treated very unsympathetically and told that I should be happy it is on the low side. And in the main I am happy that it is naturally low but I have also had periods of time where I have felt that faint every day it is unsafe for me to drive, or I have been so lethargic i can barely move. So over the years I have devised my own natural treatment plan, which so far I have found to help.
Sleep ~ Sleep 8-9 hours, and take a short nap afternoon.
Physical Activity ~ Active exercises are very beneficial as they increase the blood flow to peripheral tissues and higher blood pressure. I try to find regular time for walking, cycling, jogging and swimming.
On a morning don't 'jump' out of bed instead take the time to relax your body and then gently stretch out your limbs, followed by gently moving your hands, arms and legs.
Swedish Massage ~ this technique uses gentle moves. Muscle and neuro-vascular knots get stretched and relaxed. After the procedure, you will feel rested and rejuvenated.
Classic stone massage ~ has a relaxing effect, but also regulates the function of the nervous system, reduces muscle pain, strengthens the respiratory and immune systems of the body, helps to overcome mental and physical overload, stress, depression, chronic fatigue.
-
Hot Stones massage promotes muscle relaxation and improvement of the local blood circulation, increases the intensity of metabolic processes in the body, brings comfort and peace of mind.
-
Cold stones massage (following hot stones) narrows blood vessels and capillaries of the skin, increases circulation, improves muscles tone, oxygenates blood.
Aromatherapy ~ Essential oils stimulate nervous system, relieve stress, reduce irritability and nervous tension, and normalize sleep. For a low blood pressure treatment you can use essential oils in many ways - infusing in the air where you sleep, adding few drops into bath water and massage oil.
Aromatherapy oils for low blood pressure:
-
Valerian
-
Orange
-
Clary Sage
-
Basil
-
Pine
-
Clove
-
Thyme
-
Rosemary
